The meetings industry is lousy when it comes to PR*

Mathijs Vleeming, Communication Strategist at ICCA, the International Congress and Convention Association – the most global meetings industry association and the leader in the international association meetings sector, started this blog 2011 with the aim to share his personal “PR 2.0” experiences related to media relations and social media and to promote ICCA’s PR tools and oppportunities. Since 2014, this blog also functions as a platform to support ICCA Best PR Award, supporitng and recognising PR performance by ICCA members.

The ICCA Best PR Award is a joint initiative of ICCA and its Business Partner International Meeting Review. In support of the award, IMR editors will contribute blog posts about PR in the international meetings industry.

About MathijsMathijs Vleeming

After studying Communications at the Universtity of Amsterdam, Mathijs obtained a Bachelor degree in Comminications in 2003. His career in the international meetings industry started in 1999, when he was researching the Corporate Meetings Market at TBWA, where ICCA was one of his clients. At ICCA he is involved in product development, media relations, ICCA’s website, online applications and social media, and lately he has specialised more in online marketing, doing a post-bachelor in online marketing 2012. In almost 13 years at ICCA, Mathijs has contributed to a significant growth and expansion of member services in the meetings industry’s most global trade association. Mathijs is married to Janine, a proud daddy of Layna and Mick and a fanatic guitar player in Xcusa, a semi-professional pop/rock cover band.

The aim of this blog is to help ICCA members to be more successful in their PR efforts

It is one of ICCA’s strategic goals to enable its members to generate and maintain a significant competitive edge in their PR efforts. ICCA has created some very useful PR tools to help its members to improve their PR and social media activities, which is also the ultimate aim of this blog. Another big focus of this blog is on social media for meetings.
